General orthopedics is the field of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and a variety of orthopedic conditions.

We offer the minimally invasive procedure of arthroscopy performed by expert surgeons to correct joint problems. This procedure allows the surgeons to 'look within joints' with special tools to perform diagnostic or surgical procedures. It involves small incisions in the skin through which pencil-sized instruments containing a small lens and lighting system to illuminate and magnify images are inserted. The images are transmitted to a television screen. The surgeon gets a visual of the joint, which enhances diagnosis and treatment.
Arthroscopic surgery is performed under general or local anaesthesia with special instruments inserted through the small incisions. It is an outpatient procedure causing comparatively less pain. Recovery is quick and chances of infection minimal. Arthroscopic procedures are used to repair cartilage and meniscus problems, remove inflammation, repair rotator cuff tears and high resurfacing.
Conditions Treated:
-
Inflammation of the lining in the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, or ankle.
-
Shoulder: Rotator cuff tendon tears, impingement syndrome, and recurrent dislocations
-
Knee: Meniscal (cartilage) tears, chondromalacia (wearing or injury of cartilage cushion), and anterior cruciate ligament tears with instability
-
Wrist: Carpal tunnel syndrome
-
Loose bodies of bone and/or cartilage: for example, knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, or wrist
-
Some problems associated with arthritis

The main treatments for trauma include psychotherapy, medication, and complementary and alternative therapies. The most recent evidence suggests that trauma-focused therapies are the gold standard for treatment, including:
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): Helps people who feel stuck in their thoughts about their traumatic experiences
-
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE): A trauma-focused therapy
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A trauma-focused therapy
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A form of psychotherapy

Athroplasty is a surgical procedure that restores joint function either by resurfacing the bones or by implanting an artificial joint (prosthesis). Our surgeons are highly experienced in arthroplasty procedures and realign or reconstruct dysfunctional joints relieving pain and restoring range of motion. Arthroplasty is used when medical treatments do not relieve pain. Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease leads to a loss of cartilage that cushions the joint and is the most common reason for arthroplasty.
Types of Arthroplastic Surgeries
Joint Resection
In this procedure our surgeons remove a minimum portion of the bone to increase space between bones for easier motion and relieve stiffness. The joint is as stable as the amount of bone that is left and the ligaments that are preserved. So only a minimum is removed.
Interpositional Reconstruction
Surgeons reshape the joint and add a prosthetic disk between the bones forming the joint. The prosthesis can be made of plastic, metal, ceramic or body tissue. This prevents the bones from rubbing together. The length of hospital stay depends on the joint affected and is typically only for a few days.

Our paediatric orthopaedics specialists are specially trained to treat the developmental, congenital and traumatic musculoskeletal disorders in children. The smooth growth and development in children may be disrupted by injuries, birth malformations, neurological disorders or bone infections. They have to be treated as early as possible as childhood injuries or disease may affect growth. A developmental approach ensures the optimal lifetime function of each child by improving musculoskeletal function in several childhood disorders.

Joint preservation restores joint function and delays the need for joint replacement. When cartilage degenerates due to osteoarthritis there is increased friction between the bone ends leading to stiffness, pain and limited range of motion. Our specialists are experienced in identifying and treating patients whose joint problems do not require immediate surgery. Joint preservation reconstructs the joint to offer relief and delays the necessity for a joint replacement. The procedure is more successful in younger patients with arthritis limited to certain areas of the joint.
Joint preservation techniques
Specific osteotomies (surgical cut to the bone) and distraction to realign the joint
Rehabilitation
Physical therapy to strengthen the joints and muscles and to help restore mobility
Cartilage restoration techniques
-
Microfracture surgery
-

-
Abrasion arthroplasty
-
Autologous chondrocyte implantation Osteochondral autograft transplantation
